Skills and Experience

•    Relevant trade qualification as a Motor Mechanic or Automotive Technician.

•    Demonstrated experience diagnosing and repairing mechanical faults in vehicles.

•    Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills.

Task & responsibilities

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will perform duties consistent with the role of Motor Mechanic, including but not limited to:

•    Inspecting and diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults in motor vehicles using appropriate diagnostic equipment.

•    Conducting mechanical assessments of vehicles received by the company prior to dismantling or recycling.

•    Dismantling motor vehicles and removing mechanical components including engines, gearboxes, radiators, alternators, suspension assemblies, and steering components.

•    Testing recovered mechanical parts and determining their suitability for refurbishment, reuse, or recycling.

•    Carrying out repairs, servicing, and refurbishment of reusable automotive components where appropriate.

•    Draining and safely disposing of automotive fluids including oils, coolant, fuel, and brake fluids in accordance with environmental and safety regulations.

•    Performing routine servicing and maintenance on company vehicles, including tow trucks, forklifts, and operational equipment used within the recycling yard.

•    Maintaining workshop tools, diagnostic equipment, and mechanical tools in proper working condition.

•    Recording recovered vehicle parts and mechanical components and assisting with parts inventory management.

•    Ensuring all work is completed in accordance with workplace safety procedures and Work Health and Safety (WHS) standards.

Qualification & experience

Qualifications

•    AQF Certificate IV or at least three years of relevant experience

•    AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training.
