PURPOSE 

At Advanced Truck Centre, the Diesel Motor Mechanic plays a vital role in inspecting, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing diesel-powered vehicles and machinery. A Diesel Motor Mechanic helps ensure engines, braking systems, transmissions, fuel systems, steering, suspension, and other mechanical components work correctly. The role is important for maintaining vehicle safety, reliability, performance, and compliance with roadworthiness requirements.

JOB DESCRIPTION 

The Diesel Motor Mechanic at Advanced Truck Centre carries out routine servicing, identifies mechanical faults, repairs or replaces damaged components, and performs general maintenance on trucks and other diesel vehicles. The mechanic may also inspect vehicles for roadworthiness, test vehicle systems, use diagnostic equipment, and ensure repairs are completed safely and to an appropriate standard. The role requires practical mechanical skills, attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and a strong understanding of diesel engines and vehicle systems.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

•    Inspect, maintain, test and repair diesel engines and mechanical components of heavy vehicles.

•    Detect and diagnose faults in diesel engines, transmissions, steering, suspension, braking and other mechanical systems.

•    Use diagnostic equipment and computer-based systems to identify and assess mechanical faults.

•    Dismantle and remove engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms and other vehicle components for inspection and repair.

•    Repair or replace worn, damaged or defective parts and reassemble mechanical components in accordance with manufacturer specifications.

•    Perform scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance, including oil changes, lubrication, engine tune-ups and routine inspections.

•    Reassemble engines and mechanical components following repairs and servicing.

•    Test and adjust repaired mechanical parts and systems to ensure safe and efficient operation.

•    Carry out repairs to diesel fuel, cooling, lubrication, braking, steering and suspension systems.

•    Complete work orders, service records, maintenance reports and parts documentation accurately.

•    Follow workplace health and safety, environmental and company procedures at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS 

•    AQF Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis or a related discipline. 

•    Minimum one year of relevant experience as a Diesel Motor Mechanic. 

•    Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. 

•    Ability to plan and organise repair and maintenance work and manage workshop resources efficiently.

•    Strong mechanical fault-finding, problem-solving, and customer service skills.

•    Good understanding of workplace health and safety requirements, safe workshop practices, roadworthiness standards, and relevant automotive regulations.
