Task & responsibilities

 

- Perform vehicle inspections, servicing and scheduled maintenance (logbook services).

- Diagnose and repair engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, suspension and electrical systems.

- Use diagnostic tools/scan tools to identify faults and carry out repairs.

- Complete roadworthy/inspection certificates and safety checks.

- Remove, repair and fit parts and components; perform adjustments and alignments.

- Test-drive vehicles to verify repairs and ensure performance.

- Communicate with customers about defects, repair options, costs and timelines.

- Prepare accurate job cards, invoices and service records; maintain workshop documentation.

- Follow safety procedures, maintain a clean workspace and comply with environmental regulations.

- Mentor and support junior technicians; share technical knowledge.

- Meet quality standards and ensure timely completion of work.


Qualification & experience

- Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Technology

- Minimum 3 years’ full-time experience as a motor mechanic / auto technician 

- Relevant manufacturer or OEM training/certification (desirable) 

- Accreditation for roadworthy inspections (where required in SA) 

- Diesel mechanics qualifications if role includes diesel vehicles (where applicable) 

- Electrical/electronic diagnostics training (OBD-II, CAN bus systems) 

- Air‑conditioning certification (RAC refrigerant handling) if performing A/C work 

- Welding and fabrication certificate (desirable) 

- Safety and workplace training: White Card, First Aid, Safe Work practices 

- Valid Australian driver’s licence (C class or relevant) 

- Experience using diagnostic scan tools, vehicle management software and job management systems 

- Proven track record completing logbook services, warranties and compliance paperwork
