SmartFrame by Tilling is seeking an experienced Wood Machinist to join our South Australian operations in a full-time capacity.

This is not a general labouring position – we are seeking a high-level operator with demonstrated technical skills to operate and maintain a Hundegger Turbo-Drive II CNC machine, one of the most advanced automated timber processing systems in the industry.

As a Wood Machinist (Hundegger Operator), you will:

• Operate, calibrate, and maintain automated timber machinery (Hundegger)

• Read and interpret technical drawings and job specifications for accurate cutting

• Ensure accuracy of inventory and stock management

• Track, maintain and reduce waste / off-cuts

• Monitor quality, adjust machine parameters, and identify faults in real time

• Collaborate with despatch and yard teams to ensure timely fulfilment of custom-cut orders

• Conduct daily pre-start checks and perform minor maintenance on machinery

• Follow strict safety processes and contribute to a clean, efficient workspace

• Contribute to the overall operational safety and efficiency of the site
  

What We’re Looking For:

This is a technical specialist role and requires:

• Minimum 3 years’ experience operating timber machining or CNC equipment in a production environment

• Strong understanding of timber grades, machining tolerances, and engineered wood products

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced setting

• High attention to detail and commitment to safe operating procedures

• Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot minor issues during production

Preferred Qualifications

• Trade or vocational qualifications in wood machining, manufacturing, or relevant proven experience

• Forklift license (or willingness to obtain one)

• Previous experience using a Hundegger or similar CNC timber machines (highly regarded)
