Duties and Responsibilities

The Diesel Motor Mechanic will be responsible for maintenance and repair of diesel engines and associated components in trucks, plant, and equipment. Duties include:

Diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines
Overhauling and repairing engines and mechanical components
Servicing and repairing heavy vehicles including trucks and trailers
Maintaining civil construction plant and equipment
Repairing hydraulic systems and components
Fault finding and diagnostics using electronic diagnostic equipment
Conducting scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance
Attending breakdowns and carrying out field repairs when required
Maintaining service and maintenance records
Inspecting vehicles and equipment to ensure roadworthiness and safe operation
Replacing or repairing worn or defective parts including transmissions, braking systems, steering mechanisms and electrical components
Testing and adjusting mechanical parts after repair to ensure performance

Qualifications and Experience

Relevant trade qualification as a Diesel Motor Mechanic or equivalent
Minimum 3 years relevant work experience
Experience working on heavy diesel vehicles and/or civil construction plant
Experience with hydraulic and electrical systems preferred
HR or HC driver’s licence preferred

Skills Required

Strong diagnostic and fault-finding ability
Ability to work independently
Ability to work in a workshop and field environment
Strong understanding of diesel engines, transmissions, and hydraulic systems
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals

Additional Information

This is a full-time permanent position
The role is based in the Northern Territory
Salary range meets Australian market rates for this occupation
