  • Route, secure, and protect electrical cables and wiring harnesses through bus chassis, floor cavities, seat frames, and overhead panels in accordance with automotive wiring standards and ADR.
  • Diagnose electrical and electronic faults using electrical test equipment including multimeters, circuit testers, oscilloscopes, and diagnostic scan tools.
  • Interpret electrical circuit diagrams, wiring schematics, and manufacturer technical specifications to identify faults and determine correct repair procedures.
  • Repair or replace faulty electrical components including alternators, starter motors, voltage regulators, relays, switches, sensors, wiring harnesses, and connectors.
  • Test and maintain vehicle lighting systems (headlights, tail lights, brake lights, indicator lights, interior lighting) to ensure compliance with ADR.
  • Install, configure, and test aftermarket electronic accessories including GPS tracking systems, reversing cameras, dash cameras, telematics systems, and fleet management devices.
  • Adjust and calibrate engine control systems, fuel injection systems, and emissions control systems using diagnostic equipment and manufacturer specifications.
  • Perform scheduled electrical system inspections and preventive maintenance, including battery and alternator testing.
  • Complete accurate job cards, electrical test reports, and service records documenting all work performed, components replaced, and test results, ensuring compliance with WHS regulations and ADR standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all electrical installation, testing, fault diagnosis, and repair work meets ADR, relevant Australian Standards, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Maintain personal responsibility for safe work practices, including electrical isolation, lockout/tagout procedures, and safe use of electrical test equipment.
  • Take responsibility for the quality, accuracy, and safety of all electrical work performed, including correct cable sizing, circuit protection, and earthing.
  • Communicate proactively with the Workshop Manager and seat installation technicians regarding work progress, parts requirements, and any issues, completing accurate and timely documentation

Qualification & experience

  • Trade qualification in Automotive Electrical Technology or equivalent; OR at least three (3) years of relevant full-time experience in the automotive electrician trade in lieu of formal qualifications.
  • Minimum one (1) year of full-time post-qualification experience as an Automotive Electrician, performing installation, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of electrical wiring and electronic components in motor vehicles.
