The successful applicant will be responsible for carrying out mechanical inspections, servicing, diagnosis, repair and maintenance of passenger vehicles and light motor vehicles. The position requires a practical understanding of automotive mechanical systems and the ability to diagnose faults and complete repairs efficiently and to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

• Inspect vehicles to identify mechanical faults and determine required repairs

• Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using appropriate diagnostic equipment and testing procedures

• Carry out servicing and preventative maintenance, including oil changes, lubrication, tune ups and replacement of service components

• Repair and replace defective or worn mechanical components, including engines, transmissions, suspension, steering and braking systems

• Dismantle, inspect, repair and reassemble mechanical assemblies and components

• Conduct testing and adjustments following repairs to ensure vehicles operate safely and correctly

• Use vehicle service manuals, technical information and manufacturer specifications when undertaking repairs

• Use computer based diagnostic equipment to identify faults and assist with vehicle diagnosis

• Inspect completed work to ensure repairs meet required safety, quality and performance standards

• Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, parts used and work completed

• Maintain a clean, safe and organized workshop and comply with workplace health and safety requirements

• Work cooperatively with other workshop staff and communicate effectively regarding vehicle faults, repair requirements and job progress

Skills and Experience

The successful applicant will have:

• Relevant Australian automotive trade qualification, such as Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology, or equivalent overseas qualification

• Demonstrated experience working as a Motor Mechanic in an automotive workshop

• Sound knowledge of petrol engines and mechanical systems in light motor vehicles

• Experience diagnosing and repairing mechanical faults

• Experience with vehicle servicing and preventative maintenance

• Ability to diagnose faults using electronic diagnostic equipment

• Sound knowledge of braking, steering, suspension, transmission and engine systems

• Ability to interpret technical information and manufacturer service specifications

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• A current Australian driver's licence is desirable

• Relevant Australian licensing or registration, where required, will be considered favourably
