Task & responsibilities

Responsibility

Repair, maintain and test motor vehicle and other internal combustion engines and related mechanical components.

Duties

•    Identifying and diagnosing faults in engines and components. 

•    Taking apart and removing engine assemblies, transmissions, steering systems, and other parts, then inspecting them. 

•    Fixing or replacing worn or faulty parts, reassembling mechanical components, and consulting service manuals when necessary. 

•    Carrying out routine maintenance services, including oil changes, lubrication, and engine tune-ups, to ensure smoother vehicle operation and compliance with emission standards. 

•    Putting engines and components back together after repairs. 

•    Testing and fine-tuning repaired mechanical parts to ensure proper function. 

•    Using computer-assisted tools to diagnose and test components. 

•    Inspecting vehicles and issuing roadworthiness certificates or outlining required work to meet roadworthiness standards. 

Qualification & experience

Qualifications

•    AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training

•    AQF Certificate IV

Experience

•    At least three years of relevant experience.
