Tasks and Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be responsible for:

Carrying out logbook servicing and scheduled vehicle maintenance.

Inspecting vehicles and diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults in engines and associated components.

Using computerised diagnostic equipment and scan tools to identify faults accurately.

Dismantling and removing engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms and other mechanical components.

Inspecting mechanical parts for wear, damage and defects.

Repairing or replacing worn and defective parts and reassembling mechanical components.

Performing engine and driveline repairs.

Repairing and maintaining braking, suspension, steering, cooling, fuel and exhaust systems.

Performing timing-belt and timing-chain replacements.

Completing oil and filter changes, lubrication, fluid checks and engine tune-ups.

Testing and adjusting repaired components to ensure proper and safe operation.

Conducting vehicle inspections, workshop testing and road tests.

Referring to manufacturers’ specifications, technical information and service manuals.

Completing repair orders, job cards and service documentation accurately.

Advising customers and supervisors about identified faults and recommended repairs.

Maintaining tools, diagnostic equipment and workshop facilities in good working condition.

Maintaining a clean, safe and organised workshop.

Performing work efficiently while maintaining high standards of workmanship and safety.

Complying with workplace health and safety, environmental and vehicle-safety requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must have:

An AQF Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology or another relevant automotive mechanical qualification, including at least two years of relevant on-the-job training; or

An AQF Certificate IV in a relevant automotive mechanical discipline; or

An equivalent recognised overseas trade qualification; or

At least three years of relevant work experience where permitted as a substitute for the formal qualification.

At least two years of relevant experience working as a Motor Mechanic, preferably following completion of the relevant qualification.

Demonstrated experience servicing, diagnosing and repairing petrol-powered light motor vehicles.

Strong knowledge of engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, suspension, cooling systems and vehicle electrical systems.

Experience using computerised diagnostic equipment and scan tools.

A current Australian driver’s licence or the ability to obtain one.

A Western Australian Motor Vehicle Repairer’s Certificate for the relevant class of repair work, or eligibility and willingness to obtain the required certificate.
