The company provides workshop-based and mobile automotive services, including vehicle diagnostics, electrical repairs, air-conditioning services, brake and suspension repairs, and general vehicle maintenance.

The Automotive Electrician will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, testing, and installing electrical and electronic systems in motor vehicles. The role requires strong technical knowledge, accurate fault diagnosis, and the ability to complete repairs safely and efficiently in accordance with manufacturer specifications and company standards.

Task & responsibilities

  • Inspecting and testing vehicle electrical and electronic systems to identify faults and malfunctions.
  • Using diagnostic scan tools, multimeters, circuit testers, battery testers, and other specialised equipment to locate electrical faults.
  • Diagnosing and repairing starting, charging, ignition, lighting, wiring, engine management, and electronic control systems.
  • Reading and interpreting wiring diagrams, technical manuals, diagnostic reports, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Repairing or replacing defective wiring, connectors, switches, relays, fuses, sensors, lamps, batteries, alternators, and starter motors.
  • Removing, repairing, and reinstalling faulty electrical and electronic components and assemblies.
  • Installing and testing vehicle accessories, including lighting systems, cameras, sensors, alarms, audio equipment, and other electrical accessories.
  • Diagnosing electrical faults affecting vehicle air-conditioning, braking, suspension, steering, and safety systems.
  • Testing repaired systems and components to confirm correct operation and compliance with safety and manufacturer requirements.
  • Conducting final inspections and road tests, where required, to confirm that faults have been properly rectified.
  • Completing job cards, diagnostic reports, repair records, and parts documentation accurately.
  • Liaising with motor mechanics and other workshop personnel to resolve faults involving both mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Performing workshop-based and mobile automotive electrical repairs as required.
  • Maintaining diagnostic tools, electrical equipment, and work areas in a clean and safe condition.
  • Following Workplace Health and Safety procedures, including safe handling of batteries, electrical systems, refrigerants, and hazardous materials.

Qualification & experience

  • Relevant qualification in Automotive Electrical Technology or an equivalent trade qualification.
  • Minimum of three years of relevant experience as an Automotive Electrician or in a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive electrical wiring, electronic systems, vehicle control systems, and diagnostic procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience using automotive diagnostic and electrical testing equipment.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair starting, charging, ignition, lighting, wiring, and engine-management systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a busy automotive workshop.
  • Sound knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety requirements.
  • Current driver’s licence and ability to undertake mobile repair work where required.
  • Reliable, organised, and committed to high standards of workmanship and customer service.
