The Senior Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing and maintaining a wide range of motor vehicles to ensure they are operating safely and efficiently. The role involves performing complex mechanical and auto electrical repairs, identifying faults, replacing or repairing components, and conducting final vehicle assessments.

The Senior Mechanic will also provide technical guidance and supervision to apprentice technicians, maintain high safety and workmanship standards, and work closely with the Service Manager to ensure all repairs and servicing requirements are accurately completed and recorded.

Task & responsibilities

• Providing expert advice in relation to current mechanical conditions of vehicles.
• Taking all necessary steps to diagnose and ensure correct operation of vehicles including the dismantling and reconstruction or replacement of faulty components.
• Repairing the mechanical parts of the motor vehicle such as the engine, transmission and suspension system.
• Reporting all necessary work, service or repairs to the service manager and record using in-house databases or reporting systems.
• Ordering parts needed as part of warranty service.
• Providing guidance and training to apprentice service technicians.
• Maintain up to date knowledge of all mechanical issues and changes relating to dealer product range.
• Maintain a safe working environment though ensuring the correct operation of all tools and specialised equipment.
• Ensuring the safe working practices of all Apprentice staff.
• Test driving and conducting final assessment prior to the delivery or return of the vehicles to customers.
• Diagnosing and carrying out auto electrical repairs.
• Providing high level customer service.

Qualification & experience

Certificate IV in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent
