Spectrum Automation has built a strong reputation delivering intelligent automation, control, and industrial electrical solutions across Australia. For over 30 years, we’ve partnered with leading manufacturers and industrial operators to improve reliability, productivity, and performance through smart engineering and innovative automation systems.

As part of Sentra Group, a growing network of companies delivering end-to-end electrical, instrumentation, automation, and safety solutions, we are entering an exciting phase of national expansion with new opportunities emerging across Australia.

About the Opportunity:

This role is ideal for a hands-on Automation Technician who loves fault finding, problem solving, and making systems run better than they did yesterday.

You’ll work across a variety of industrial environments supporting the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, optimisation, and commissioning of automation and control systems. From breakdown response through to project delivery and system upgrades, no two days will look the same.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Installing, configuring, testing, and maintaining industrial automation and control systems

  • Diagnosing and rectifying complex automation and electrical faults across live industrial environments

  • Assisting with commissioning PLCs, SCADA, HMIs, VSDs, and control systems

  • Supporting shutdowns, upgrades, breakdown response, and optimisation projects

  • Integrating sensors, drives, instrumentation, and automation devices

  • Reading and interpreting electrical schematics and automation drawings

  • Performing preventative maintenance and reliability improvement works

  • Collaborating closely with engineers, electricians, and project delivery teams

  • Maintaining high-quality technical documentation and reporting

  • Travelling to client sites across Brisbane and surrounding regions as required

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for technicians who genuinely take pride in their craft.

The kind of people who can walk into a plant, identify issues others miss, stay calm under pressure, and solve problems properly, not just temporarily.

To be successful, you’ll ideally have:

  • VIC Electrical Licence (essential)

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in industrial automation or electrical maintenance

  • Strong PLC fault-finding and troubleshooting capability

  • Experience with Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or Schneider systems highly regarded

  • Excellent diagnostic and analytical skills

  • Ability to interpret electrical and automation schematics confidently

  • A proactive, solutions-focused attitude

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

We’re particularly interested in people who are technically sharp, adaptable, and motivated by challenging industrial environments.

What You'll Enjoy:

  • Exciting industrial automation projects across multiple industries

  • Work with highly capable engineers and technicians

  • Genuine career progression opportunities as the business grows

  • Strong team culture with a focus on collaboration and support

  • Competitive salary package - fully maintained company vehicle, phone, laptop

  • Ongoing training, mentorship, and technical development

  • Diverse, challenging, and rewarding work environments

If you’re an experienced Automation Technician who thrives on fault finding, solving problems, and delivering quality work, we’d love to hear from you.
