The successful applicant will work on a variety of heavy and light diesel vehicles, ensuring all repairs and servicing are completed to the highest industry standards.

Task & responsibilities

  • Inspect diesel engines and associated mechanical systems in heavy and light vehicles to identify faults and determine appropriate repair requirements.
  • Diagnose mechanical and engine-related issues using advanced electronic diagnostic equipment and interpret test results accurately.
  • Remove, dismantle and examine diesel engines, transmissions, steering systems, suspension assemblies, braking components and other mechanical parts for repair or replacement.
  • Repair or replace worn, damaged or defective components using appropriate repair techniques, including welding, bolting, riveting and other approved methods where required.
  • Reassemble engine components and reinstall repaired engines and mechanical assemblies, ensuring all systems operate efficiently and safely.
  • Service, adjust and repair fuel injection systems, cooling systems, lubrication systems, ignition components and other electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Test and fine-tune engines and mechanical systems following repairs to verify performance, reliability and compliance with manufacturer specifications.
  • Carry out routine servicing and preventative maintenance, including oil and filter changes, lubrication, battery inspections and scheduled vehicle maintenance.
  • Maintain accurate service records and complete repair documentation in accordance with company procedures.
  • Ensure all work complies with workplace health and safety requirements, environmental standards and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Maintain workshop tools, equipment and work areas in a clean, organised and safe condition.
  • Collaborate effectively with workshop supervisors and fellow technicians to achieve efficient workflow and timely completion of repairs.

Qualification & experience

  • 1–3 years of relevant experience as a Diesel Mechanic is essential.
  • A completed relevant qualification in Automotive Diesel Mechanical Technology or an equivalent trade qualification is required.
  • Sound knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, suspension, steering and braking systems.
  • Experience using electronic diagnostic equipment and modern workshop tools.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to workplace health and safety practices.
  • Registration or licensing may be required where applicable.
