Task & responsibilities

• Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in petrol engines and vehicle systems using diagnostic equipment and testing procedures.
• Inspect vehicles to identify faults affecting engine performance, steering, suspension, braking systems, and transmissions.
• Dismantle engines, gearboxes, steering assemblies, suspension components, and other mechanical systems for inspection and repair.
• Repair or replace damaged, worn, or defective mechanical parts using manufacturer specifications and workshop procedures.
• Reassemble engines and mechanical components following repairs to ensure correct operation and reliability.
• Perform scheduled servicing, including oil and filter changes, engine tune-ups, lubrication, brake inspections, and other preventative maintenance.
• Test, adjust, and fine-tune repaired components to ensure optimal vehicle performance and safety.
• Use computerised diagnostic equipment and specialised tools to identify faults and verify completed repairs.
• Refer to manufacturer service manuals and technical documentation to complete repairs accurately.
• Conduct final vehicle inspections to confirm roadworthiness and identify any additional repairs required.
• Ensure all repairs comply with relevant safety, environmental, and industry standards.
• Maintain accurate service records and communicate repair recommendations to supervisors where required.
• Keep the workshop clean, organised, and compliant with workplace health and safety requirements.

Qualification & experience

• Relevant automotive qualification must be completed.
• Minimum 1–3 years of relevant work experience.
• Strong diagnostic and mechanical repair skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
