Role Summary

Smart Auto is seeking an experienced and motivated Motor Mechanic (General) to join our skilled workshop team. The ideal candidate will perform diagnostic, maintenance and repair tasks on a wide range of vehicles using modern tools and workshop systems. Key Duties & Responsibilities

As a Motor Mechanic, you will be responsible for tasks such as:

• Diagnosing faults and mechanical faults in vehicles, including engines, transmissions, brakes, steering and suspension.
• Inspecting vehicles and components to identify service needs and recommend repairs.
• Removing, repairing, reconditioning or replacing worn or defective parts and adjusting components to manufacturer specifications.
• Performing scheduled servicing and maintenance, such as oil changes, filter replacements, brake servicing, tune-ups and road tests.
• Using diagnostic equipment to test vehicle systems and record service results.
• Maintaining accurate service and repair documentation (logbook servicing, job cards, workshop systems).
• Advising customers on vehicle condition and recommended work in a clear, professional manner.
• Ensuring compliance with workplace health and safety (WHS) standards and workshop procedures.

Selection Criteria – Skills & Qualifications

To be successful in this position, applicants must have:

✔ Minimum 1-2 years of relevant automotive mechanical experience.

✔ A recognised Australian qualification (or equivalent) such as Certificate III or Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Technology/Automotive Technology.

✔ Ability to interpret technical manuals and service diagrams.

✔ Hands-on diagnostic ability using workshop tools and diagnostic equipment.

✔ Valid Australian driver’s licence.

✔ Knowledge of driving and testing both manual and automatic vehicles.

✔ Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and commitment to quality workmanship.

✔ Excellent communication and customer service skills.
