We are seeking an experienced Production Assistant (Engineering Technologist) to analyse and enhance our existing engineering technologies, systems and manufacturing processes. In this role, you will apply engineering principles and contemporary technological methods to assess current machinery, equipment and operational workflows, identifying opportunities to modify, improve and optimise performance.

You will review our existing technologies and processes, determine where upgrades or improvements are required, and prepare detailed technical documentation, including updated drawings, specifications and cost estimates. You will be responsible for supporting the implementation of approved upgrades, ensuring technologies are integrated effectively and safely into operations.

As part of your duties, you will run engineering technologies through structured testing procedures, evaluate performance outcomes, record findings and ensure that all modifications meet safety, compliance and operational standards. You will update internal engineering documentation, including SOPs, and provide technical guidance and training to operators to support smooth adoption of new or modified technologies.

Following implementation, you will continue to monitor and assess technology performance, prepare detailed reports on system behaviour and efficiency, and recommend any further refinements or enhancements necessary to ensure optimal functionality.

This role requires a technically skilled professional capable of bridging engineering design with practical technology implementation, ensuring that engineering solutions are sound, effective and aligned with organisational goals.

Benefits

  • Opportunity to work on meaningful engineering technology improvements
  • Hands‑on involvement in testing and implementing upgraded systems
  • Skill development across analysis, design, and technical project support
  • Collaborative work with engineering and operational teams
  • Clear pathways for career progression into senior technical roles

Task & responsibilities

  • Monitor, test and analyse plant, equipment and system performance during normal operations to ensure systems function reliably, efficiently and in accordance with established operating parameters, safety requirements and engineering standards.
  • Conduct routine and non‑routine inspections, operational checks and performance measurements to verify that plant and equipment reliability, efficiency and output benchmarks are consistently achieved under live operating conditions.
  • Apply established engineering technologies and methodologies to assess facility layouts, operational workflows and production data, identifying practical opportunities to improve efficiency, throughput, maintainability and system integration.
  • Assist in assessing the suitability of existing and emerging technologies, equipment upgrades or system enhancements for site‑specific application, ensuring compatibility with operational requirements, manufacturer guidelines and approved engineering frameworks.
  • Implement approved engineering designs, technical plans, specifications and equipment modifications by coordinating installation, configuration and commissioning activities in collaboration with engineers, contractors and operational personnel.
  • Prepare, update and maintain technical documentation, layouts, drawings, installation records and as‑built schematics to accurately reflect implemented changes and operational conditions.
  • Carry out commissioning, start‑up and functional testing of plant, equipment and system modifications, using established testing procedures and instrumentation to verify performance against predefined technical and operational criteria.
  • Conduct performance validation, calibration and operational optimisation activities following upgrades or modifications, documenting results and recommending practical adjustments to achieve stable and reliable operation.
  • Apply relevant Australian Standards, codes of practice and safety regulations during installation, testing, operation and maintenance activities, ensuring ongoing compliance with operational, environmental and workplace safety requirements.
  • Investigate operational issues related to equipment performance, product utilisation, environmental impact or pollution control by conducting troubleshooting, diagnostic testing and root cause analysis using established engineering techniques.
  • Support the identification and implementation of corrective actions and technical improvements to address operational inefficiencies, equipment failures or compliance risks.
  • Liaise with suppliers, manufacturers, contractors and material specialists to interpret technical documentation, coordinate installation activities, and support the selection and application of metals, ceramics, polymers, elastomers and composite materials for specific operational uses.
  • Analyse equipment performance data, fault reports and failure trends to identify probable causes of breakdowns or inefficiencies, providing practical, technology‑focused recommendations to improve reliability and service life.
  • Provide on‑site technical support to operations and maintenance teams by interpreting engineering documentation, assisting with troubleshooting activities and advising on equipment adjustment, repair or replacement.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by applying established engineering technologies to improve operational effectiveness, maintainability and integration of new equipment or systems within the facility.
  • Perform additional applied engineering and technology‑related duties as required to support day‑to‑day operations, system reliability, maintenance activities and ongoing technology integration.
