We are seeking a skilled and experienced Diesel Motor Mechanic to join our team on a full-time basis.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, testing, diagnosing and repairing diesel engines and the mechanical and electrical components of mobile plant equipment, including dozers, loaders, excavators, graders, drill rigs, cranes, haul trucks and compactors.

Key responsibilities include:

• Detecting and diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults in diesel engines and associated components.
• Inspecting engines and mechanical systems to identify wear, damage and operating problems.
• Using computer-assisted diagnostic equipment to identify and assess faults.
• Dismantling engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms and other mechanical components.
• Repairing or replacing worn, damaged and defective engine and mechanical components.
• Reassembling diesel engines and mechanical components following repairs.
• Performing scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance, including oil changes, lubrication, filter replacement and engine tune-ups.
• Testing and adjusting mechanical components and diesel engines following servicing or repair.
• Interpreting service manuals, technical specifications and manufacturer instructions.
• Inspecting mobile plant equipment and providing breakdown assistance where required.
• Carrying out all maintenance and repair work in accordance with workplace safety and technical standards.

Applicants should have relevant qualifications and/or demonstrated experience as a Diesel Motor Mechanic and be capable of undertaking the duties of the position safely and independently.

Task & responsibilities

• Detect and diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in diesel engines and associated components.
• Inspect engines and mechanical systems to identify wear, damage, defects and operating problems.
• Use computer-assisted diagnostic equipment to identify and diagnose faults.
• Dismantle and remove engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms and other mechanical components.
• Inspect dismantled components and determine whether adjustment, repair or replacement is required.
• Repair and replace worn, damaged or defective engine and mechanical components.
• Reassemble diesel engines and mechanical components following repairs or replacement.
• Perform scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance, including oil changes, lubrication, filter replacement and engine tune-ups.
• Test and adjust diesel engines and mechanical systems following servicing and repairs.
• Interpret service manuals, technical specifications and manufacturer instructions.
• Inspect mobile plant equipment to assess its mechanical condition and required repairs.
• Attend mobile plant breakdowns, diagnose faults on-site and carry out or arrange necessary repairs.
• Perform all maintenance and repair work in accordance with workplace safety procedures and required technical standards.

Qualification & experience

• Relevant experience working as a Diesel Motor Mechanic or in a closely related mechanical role.
• Demonstrated experience diagnosing, servicing and repairing diesel engines and mechanical components.
• Ability to use computer-assisted diagnostic equipment and interpret diagnostic information.
• Ability to read and apply service manuals, technical specifications and manufacturer instructions.
• Experience with mobile plant equipment will be highly regarded.
• Strong mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work safely and independently in a workshop environment.
