As a Vehicle Spray Painter, you will prepare and repair vehicle panels, including fixing dents and sanding surfaces to ensure a smooth finish. You will mask areas to prevent overspray, accurately match and mix paint colours, and apply primer, basecoat, and clearcoat using spray equipment in a controlled environment. The role includes sanding between coats, performing touch-ups, polishing for a seamless finish, removing masking materials, and completing final waxing. You may also create custom graphics and apply rust-proofing and protective treatments to extend vehicle lifespan.

Task & responsibilities
• Preparing vehicle panels by repairing dents, scratches, and uneven surfaces to achieve a smooth finish before painting.
• Sanding surfaces by hand and using power tools to remove old paint, smooth fillers, and ensure proper adhesion for new coatings.
• Masking areas not requiring paint using tape, plastic, and paper to protect glass, trims, and surrounding components from overspray.
• Accurately matching and mixing paint colours using manual methods, computerised systems, or selecting suitable pre-mixed paints to match original finishes.
• Applying primer, basecoat, and clearcoat with spray equipment in a controlled environment, ensuring consistent coverage and correct curing, including sanding between coats for a high-quality result.
• Performing touch-ups on minor imperfections and polishing surfaces to restore shine and ensure seamless blending with existing paintwork.
• Carefully removing masking materials after painting and completing final waxing and polishing to enhance appearance and protect the finish.
• Creating and painting custom signage, graphics, or artwork on vehicle exteriors according to client specifications or design plans.
• Applying rust-proofing and protective chemical treatments to underbodies and other susceptible areas to prolong vehicle lifespan.
Qualification & experience
- Certificate III or Certificate IV in a relevant trade qualification, or an overseas equivalent.
- A minimum of two to three (2-3) years’ relevant industry experience.
- At least two (2) years of demonstrated experience as a Vehicle Painter.
- Prior experience within a body shop or automotive repair workshop.
- High level of attention to detail with strong precision skills.
- Thorough knowledge of automotive paints, primers, and clear coats.
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment and follow detailed instructions accurately.
