About the Role

Rockhill Concrete Construction is seeking a skilled and experienced Diesel Motor Mechanic to join our team on a full-time basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, servicing and repairing diesel-powered vehicles and associated mechanical systems to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operation.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Detecting and diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults in diesel engines and associated vehicle components using appropriate diagnostic equipment and testing procedures.
  • Dismantling and removing diesel engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms and other mechanical components for inspection and repair.
  • Inspecting engines and mechanical components to identify worn, damaged or defective parts requiring repair or replacement.
  • Repairing and replacing worn or defective parts and reassembling mechanical components in accordance with manufacturer specifications and service manuals.
  • Performing scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance, including oil changes, lubrication, filter replacement and engine tune-ups.
  • Reassembling diesel engines and related components following repairs and ensuring correct installation and operation.
  • Testing and adjusting repaired mechanical components and systems to ensure proper performance and reliability.
  • Using computerised diagnostic equipment and testing devices to diagnose faults and verify completed repairs.
  • Inspecting, maintaining and repairing transmissions, suspension, steering and braking systems on diesel-powered vehicles.
  • Checking and maintaining fuel, cooling and lubrication systems to ensure efficient diesel engine performance.
  • Conducting post-repair inspections and operational testing to confirm that faults have been rectified and vehicles are safe for use.
  • Identifying additional repair or maintenance requirements and maintaining accurate records of servicing and repair work.
  • Responding to vehicle or equipment breakdowns and carrying out repairs where required.

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, applicants should have:

  • AQF Certificate III in a relevant automotive/diesel mechanical trade qualification, including appropriate on-the-job training, or an equivalent relevant qualification.
  • Alternatively, at least three years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualification.
  • Relevant practical experience in servicing, diagnosing and repairing diesel engines and heavy vehicle mechanical systems.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, steering, suspension and braking systems.
  • Experience using computerised diagnostic equipment and mechanical testing tools.
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical faults accurately and carry out appropriate repairs.
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, manufacturer specifications and diagnostic information.
  • Sound knowledge of scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team while maintaining a high standard of workmanship.
  • Strong attention to workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Relevant registration or licensing where required.
