M&M Mechanical, a busy automotive workshop based in Epping, VIC, is seeking an experienced Diesel Motor Mechanic to join our team on a full-time basis. The successful candidate will service, diagnose and repair diesel engines and related vehicle systems, ensuring all work meets workshop quality standards and relevant roadworthiness requirements.

Task & responsibilities

• Identify the cause of mechanical and electrical issues in engines and vehicle components through hands-on inspection and diagnostic testing
• Strip down engines, transmissions, steering systems and other major assemblies to inspect individual parts for wear or damage
• Replace or rebuild faulty components and reassemble mechanical systems in line with manufacturer service manuals and specifications
• Carry out routine servicing including oil changes, lubrication and tune-ups to keep vehicles running efficiently and within emissions requirements
• Rebuild engines and components once repairs are complete, ensuring correct fit and function
• Run test procedures on repaired parts and fine-tune adjustments to confirm they're performing correctly
• Use diagnostic computer software and equipment to pinpoint faults in vehicle systems
• Attend breakdown callouts and carry out on-the-spot repairs where required

Qualification & experience

• Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology, Automotive Diesel Technology, or equivalent trade qualification
• Minimum 1 year of relevant experience as a Diesel Motor Mechanic
• Sound knowledge of diesel engine systems, hydraulics, and diagnostic equipment
• Current driver's licence (heavy vehicle licence highly regarded)
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal
