Task & responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, and repair petrol engines and the mechanical systems of light motor vehicles, including transmissions, steering, suspension, and braking systems.
• Diagnose mechanical faults by carrying out detailed inspections and testing engine and vehicle components.
• Remove, dismantle, and examine engines, gearboxes, steering assemblies, and other mechanical parts to identify defects.
• Repair or replace damaged and worn components while following manufacturer specifications and service manuals.
• Perform scheduled vehicle servicing, including oil and filter changes, lubrication, engine tune-ups, and preventative maintenance.
• Reassemble engines and mechanical components after repairs, ensuring all parts are correctly fitted and secured.
• Test, calibrate, and adjust repaired components to verify safe operation and optimal vehicle performance.
• Operate computerised diagnostic equipment to identify faults, analyse vehicle systems, and confirm successful repairs.
• Inspect vehicles to assess roadworthiness and recommend any repairs required to meet safety standards where applicable.
• Maintain accurate service records and ensure all work complies with workplace health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Keep the workshop clean, organised, and ensure tools and equipment are maintained in good working condition.
• Communicate effectively with customers and team members regarding repair findings, maintenance requirements, and service recommendations.

Qualification & experience

• Relevant automotive qualification must be completed.
• 1–3 years of relevant work experience as a Motor Mechanic.
• Strong knowledge of petrol engine systems and vehicle mechanical components.
• Ability to diagnose faults using modern diagnostic equipment.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Registration or licensing may be required.
