About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, testing, diagnosing and repairing light motor vehicles and their mechanical components. The role requires sound mechanical knowledge, strong diagnostic skills and the ability to complete repairs and scheduled servicing safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and identify mechanical and electrical faults in engines and vehicle mechanical components using appropriate diagnostic equipment and testing procedures.
  • Inspect engines and mechanical systems to identify faults, wear, damage and components requiring repair or replacement.
  • Dismantle and remove engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms and other mechanical components as required.
  • Repair, replace and reassemble worn or defective mechanical components in accordance with manufacturer specifications and service manuals.
  • Perform scheduled vehicle maintenance, including engine servicing, oil changes, lubrication, inspections and tune-ups.
  • Maintain and repair vehicle engines and associated mechanical systems to ensure reliable and safe vehicle operation.
  • Inspect, repair and replace components associated with vehicle transmission and driveline systems.
  • Inspect, diagnose and repair steering and suspension components.
  • Inspect, service and repair braking systems and associated mechanical components.
  • Reassemble repaired engines and mechanical components and ensure all parts are correctly fitted and secured.
  • Test and adjust repaired mechanical systems to ensure correct operation and performance.
  • Use computerised diagnostic equipment to assist with fault diagnosis and testing of vehicle systems.
  • Conduct post-repair inspections and road tests where required to verify that vehicles are operating correctly and safely.
  • Identify additional mechanical work required to bring vehicles to a safe and roadworthy condition and communicate findings appropriately.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, servicing, diagnostics and repairs undertaken.
  • Follow manufacturer specifications, workshop procedures, workplace health and safety requirements and environmental practices.
  • Maintain workshop tools, diagnostic equipment and mechanical equipment in safe and serviceable condition.

Essential Requirements

  • Relevant qualification such as Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology (AUR30620 or equivalent), or a relevant equivalent automotive trade qualification.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience as a Motor Mechanic / Automotive Light Vehicle Mechanic.
  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
  • Experience in servicing and repairing engines, transmissions, steering, suspension and braking systems.
  • Ability to use computerised automotive diagnostic equipment.
  • Sound knowledge of manufacturer specifications and repair procedures.
  • Current Australian driver’s licence is highly desirable.

Salary & Benefits

Salary: $80,000 per annum + superannuation

This is a full-time opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced Motor Mechanic (General) to join an established automotive workshop in Sunbury.
