About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Vehicle Body Builder to join our vehicle manufacturing and assembly team in Bayswater, Western Australia.

The successful applicant will be responsible for building, modifying, fitting and finishing bus, coach and specialised vehicle bodies in accordance with engineering drawings, customer specifications and applicable Australian Design Rules (ADRs).

This is a full-time, ongoing position offering the opportunity to work across a range of vehicle projects, including 2WD and 4WD buses, coaches, mining buses, community transport vehicles and other specialised vehicles. We are looking for an applicant with relevant vehicle body building experience, practical technical skills and a strong commitment to quality workmanship and workplace safety.

Task & responsibilities

• Build and assemble specialised vehicle bodies, including 2WD and 4WD buses, coaches, mining buses, community transport vehicles, medical units, troop carriers, mobile workshops and specialty trucks, in accordance with engineering drawings and applicable Australian Design Rules (ADRs).
• Modify truck and bus chassis by extending or shortening wheelbases and fabricating and fitting chassis cross members, drive shaft centre hangers and structural mounting components to suit required vehicle body configurations.
• Reposition and install chassis-mounted components, including fuel tanks, battery boxes, air systems, fuel lines, brake lines, electrical wiring and associated brackets, to accommodate customised vehicle body layouts.
• Mount and secure bus and coach body modules to vehicle chassis using approved lifting methods and U-bolt mounting systems, ensuring correct alignment and structural integrity.
• Cut, prepare, fabricate and install timber flooring, interior wall panels, cabinetry, seating, door systems, locks, handles and other vehicle body components in accordance with customer specifications.
• Install specialised vehicle equipment and accessories, including bull bars, tow bars, water tanks, toilets, air-operated steps and doors, air-conditioning components and fibreglass interior panels.
• Carry out vehicle body finishing work, including the application and fitting of decorative coatings, decals, side mouldings and high-visibility tape.

Qualification & experience

• AQF Certificate III in a relevant field, including at least two years of on-the-job training; or

AQF Certificate IV in a relevant field, together with at least one year of relevant experience; or

• Alternatively, at least three years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualification requirement where the applicant does not hold a relevant AQF qualification.
• Relevant experience in vehicle body building, bus or coach manufacturing, truck body building, automotive fabrication or a related vehicle manufacturing environment.
• Practical skills and experience relevant to vehicle body construction, modification, assembly, fitting and finishing.
• Ability to understand and work in accordance with engineering drawings and technical specifications.
• Sound understanding of workplace health and safety requirements and safe workshop practices.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality workmanship.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Good organisational skills, reliability and a professional approach to work.
