Holy Spirit Seminary is seeking an experienced and compassionate Housekeeper Supervisor to lead housekeeping operations within a faith-based residential environment.
This role is ideally suited to someone who not only takes pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness, but who also understands and respects the unique nature of working within a seminary, supporting priests and residents from diverse cultural and spiritual backgrounds.
About the Role
Reporting to the Rector, the Housekeeper – Supervisor is responsible for:
Delivering high-quality housekeeping and cleaning services across residential, communal and office areas
Supervising and supporting housekeeping team members in daily duties
Allocating tasks and ensuring work is completed to the required standard
Monitoring cleaning supplies and equipment and reporting maintenance or stock issues
Promoting safe work practices and correct use of cleaning chemicals and equipment
This is a hands-on leadership role where you will oversee housekeeping operations across approximately 16 dorms and shared facilities.
The environment can be dynamic, with unexpected or urgent tasks arising regularly—such as preparing rooms for visiting priests at short notice or supporting Seminary events. Success in this role requires someone who is adaptable, calm under pressure, and able to adjust priorities quickly while maintaining excellent standards.
This role also involves regular physical duties and requires strong attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee housekeeping services across dormitories, shared spaces, and offices
Lead, supervise and support housekeeping staff day-to-day
Maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and presentation
Manage laundry operations, including linen, towels, and tablecloths
Order, monitor and maintain cleaning supplies and equipment
Prepare rooms for residents and visiting priests at short notice
Clean and maintain kitchen areas, including commercial equipment
Assist with functions and additional duties as required
Ensure safe work practices and compliance with WHS requirements
About You
Essential Attributes
Understanding of a faith-based environment
You demonstrate respect, discretion, and sensitivity, and understand the importance of maintaining a peaceful, respectful setting appropriate to a seminary.
Strong communication skills
You communicate clearly, respectfully, and confidently with staff, leadership, and residents. You can give direction while maintaining a warm, supportive approach.
Adaptability and flexibility
You are comfortable responding to unexpected tasks and changing priorities, and can remain calm and effective under pressure.
Compassionate, service-oriented approach
You bring a warm, welcoming presence and contribute positively to a community environment.
Cultural awareness
You are respectful of diverse cultures, particularly as the Seminary hosts priests from other countries
Skills & Experience
3–5 years’ experience in housekeeping or cleaning, ideally with supervisory duties
Strong organisational and time management skills
High attention to detail and commitment to quality
Ability to lead a team while also working independently
Experience with commercial cleaning equipment and kitchen environments
Reliable, punctual, and trustworthy
Requirements
Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain)
Physically capable of manual cleaning tasks (lifting, bending, standing)
Current driver’s licence (desirable for purchasing supplies)
