Position Purpose:
To diagnose, repair, service, and maintain diesel engines and mechanical systems of heavy and light commercial vehicles, ensuring optimal performance, safety, and compliance with manufacturer and regulatory standards.

Task & responsibilities
- Detect and diagnose faults in diesel engines, transmissions, braking systems, steering, suspension, and other mechanical parts.
- Dismantle and remove engine assemblies and mechanical components for repair or replacement.
- Conduct thorough inspections to identify worn or damaged parts, and refer to manufacturer specifications and service manuals as needed.
- Repair or replace defective engine components and mechanical systems, ensuring accurate reassembly.
- Carry out scheduled maintenance services, such as oil changes, filter replacements, and engine tuning to maintain compliance with environmental and safety standards.
- Test mechanical components and systems after repairs to ensure proper function and performance.
- Operate and interpret diagnostic equipment and computer systems to identify issues and verify repairs.
- Complete service documentation and job cards with detailed records of work performed and parts used.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, ensuring compliance with workplace health and safety standards.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to apprentices or junior mechanics when required.
Qualification & experience
Essential:
- AQF Certificate III in Automotive Diesel Engine Technology (or equivalent international qualification).
- At least 2 years of post-qualification experience working with diesel engines and heavy vehicle mechanical systems.
- Strong diagnostic and mechanical repair skills.
- Familiarity with a wide range of diesel-powered vehicles, including light trucks, heavy goods vehicles, and commercial service vehicles.
Desirable:
- Experience with multi-brand servicing in dealership or regional workshop settings.
- Valid Australian driver’s licence – HR or HC licence preferred.
- Roadworthy certification endorsement (or eligibility to obtain).
