Duties and Responsibilities

The Diesel Motor Mechanic will be responsible for maintenance and repair of diesel engines and associated components in trucks, plant, and equipment. Duties include:

  • Diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines
  • Overhauling and repairing engines and mechanical components
  • Servicing and repairing heavy vehicles including trucks and trailers
  • Maintaining civil construction plant and equipment
  • Repairing hydraulic systems and components
  • Fault finding and diagnostics using electronic diagnostic equipment
  • Conducting scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance
  • Attending breakdowns and carrying out field repairs when required
  • Maintaining service and maintenance records
  • Inspecting vehicles and equipment to ensure roadworthiness and safe operation
  • Replacing or repairing worn or defective parts including transmissions, braking systems, steering mechanisms and electrical components
  • Testing and adjusting mechanical parts after repair to ensure performance

Qualifications and Experience

  • Relevant trade qualification as a Diesel Motor Mechanic or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years relevant work experience
  • Experience working on heavy diesel vehicles and/or civil construction plant
  • Experience with hydraulic and electrical systems preferred
  • HR or HC driver’s licence preferred

Skills Required

  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding ability
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work in a workshop and field environment
  • Strong understanding of diesel engines, transmissions, and hydraulic systems
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals

Additional Information

  • This is a full-time permanent position
