Part-Time Maintenance Handyperson

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic part-time Maintenance Handyperson to join our team at Cockburn Ice Arena. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys variety, problem-solving, and working in a dynamic recreational environment.

The successful applicant will hold a Manual ‘C’ Class driver’s licence and have prior experience working as a handyperson or similar role. A trade qualification in carpentry, building/construction, electrical, plumbing, or a related field is highly desirable.

About the Role

This is a part-time position of approximately 15-20 hours per week. Days and times are flexible and negotiable for the right candidate, with availability to work Saturdays considered a bonus.

Key Responsibilities

As our Maintenance Handyperson, you will:

• Communicate and collaborate with maintenance team members to coordinate and complete tasks, even when working on different days

• Ensure the facility, equipment, and furniture are maintained to a high standard and are safe for use

• Carry out routine maintenance and repairs, troubleshoot issues, and liaise with contractors for specialist works and deliveries

• Proactively identify maintenance requirements and ensure timely completion of projects and tasks

• Maintain grounds to ensure they are clean, safe, and presentable

• Keep maintenance and equipment areas clean, organised, and compliant

• Safely operate the Zamboni ice resurfacer to maintain a high-quality ice surface in line with session schedules

• Operate and maintain scissor lifts between regular servicing

• Operate the forklift, identify faults, and escalate breakdowns or servicing requirements to the service provider

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Previous experience as a handyperson and/or a trade qualification in carpentry, building/construction, electrical, plumbing, or a related field (desirable)

• A Manual ‘C’ Class driver’s licence (or the ability to drive manual vehicles)

• Ability to obtain a Police Clearance upon request

• Physical capability to lift and move heavy items (e.g. hockey nets), change 15kg gas cylinders, and work in cold environments

• A willingness and motivation to learn new skills, including ice resurfacing, Zamboni maintenance, and refrigeration or cooling tower technology

• High Risk Work Licence (Forklift) and EWP Ticket (desirable) and willingness to work at heights

• Knowledge of refrigeration systems or experience with dehumidifiers, pool equipment, or cooling towers (desirable)

• Welding experience (desirable)
