ASC Melbourne Division is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Motor Mechanic (General) to carry out mechanical servicing, diagnostics, and repairs on light and heavy vehicles, including specialised sweeping and vacuum equipment. The role involves working closely with workshop supervisors and technical teams to ensure vehicles and equipment operate safely and efficiently.

Task & responsibilities

Diagnose, test, and repair mechanical and electrical faults in engines and associated vehicle systems.

Conduct scheduled servicing and preventive maintenance of vehicles and specialised sweeping equipment.

Dismantle, repair, and reassemble engines, transmissions, steering, braking, and suspension systems.

Inspect and test vehicles using diagnostic equipment to identify malfunctions and performance issues.

Repair or replace defective components including fuel systems, cooling systems, ignition systems, and gearboxes.

Perform engine tune-ups and adjustments to improve vehicle performance and fuel efficiency.

Maintain accurate service records and prepare detailed repair documentation.

Ensure all repairs and maintenance comply with manufacturer specifications and workplace health and safety standards.

Assist with maintenance and repair of hydraulic and pneumatic systems fitted to sweeping equipment.

Conduct road testing of vehicles and equipment to confirm operational safety and compliance.

Qualification & experience

Relevant qualification equivalent to an Australian Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology or higher.

Minimum 1–2 years of relevant post-qualification experience as a Motor Mechanic.

Demonstrated experience in diagnostics and fault-finding.

Ability to interpret technical manuals and manufacturer specifications.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Valid driver’s licence (Heavy Vehicle licence desirable but not essential).
