The Quality Assurance Technician is responsible for monitoring and controlling the quality of raw materials, in‑process batches and finished paint products, conducting tests and inspections, and supporting continuous improvement of manufacturing processes to ensure products meet specified standards and regulatory requirements, in support of production and engineering management.

Task & responsibilities

  • Develop, document and refine quality assurance procedures, test methods and standard operating procedures for paint and coating products, ensuring alignment with manufacturing and regulatory requirements.
  • Test and evaluate raw materials, in‑process samples and finished products (including viscosity, colour, coverage, adhesion and other performance characteristics), recording and interpreting results to verify conformance with specifications.
  • Verify paint formulas, issue batch quantities for production, and monitor manufacturing parameters to ensure consistent product quality and efficient use of materials and labour.
  • Review and analyse production and defect data, identify trends and non‑conformances, and recommend corrective and preventive actions to improve product quality and process reliability.
  • Conduct internal quality audits of production processes, documentation, equipment calibration and housekeeping, ensuring compliance with QA procedures, occupational health and safety and environmental requirements.
  • Coordinate and verify calibration of testing and measuring equipment and liaise with maintenance and production teams to ensure equipment used in quality‑critical processes is fit for purpose and operating within specified tolerances.
  • Monitor and assess raw material quality, liaise with procurement and suppliers to resolve quality issues, and support qualification of new materials or alternative suppliers where required.
  • Organise and participate in stocktakes, maintain traceability of batches and materials using inventory systems (e.g. Fishbowl), and ensure QA records support product recall and compliance requirements.
  • Prepare regular quality reports for management, summarising test results, defects, trends and improvement opportunities, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in manufacturing and order management processes.
  • Allocate QA workloads, schedule inspections, monitor staff adherence to QA procedures and workplace standards, and provide guidance and training to production and QA personnel on quality requirements and best practice.
  • Promote and enforce OHS and quality standards, ensuring a safe, clean and professional work environment and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and teamwork.

Qualification & experience

Diploma or higher

At least 2 years of relevant work experience (paint manufacturing preferred)

Ability to follow procedures, specifications, and safety requirements

Good communication skills and a collaborative approach
