Task & responsibilities

• Detect and diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in heavy vehicles using diagnostic equipment and testing procedures
• Repair and replace defective engine components, transmissions, suspension systems, steering mechanisms, brakes, and hydraulic systems
• Perform scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance on heavy diesel vehicles and commercial fleets
• Dismantle, inspect, repair, and reassemble heavy vehicle engines and associated mechanical components
• Tune engines and adjust mechanical parts to ensure optimal vehicle performance and compliance with manufacturer specifications
• Test and inspect vehicles after repair work to ensure roadworthiness and operational safety
• Carry out repairs on cooling systems, fuel systems, exhaust systems, and electrical systems
• Maintain accurate service records, repair reports, and parts usage documentation
• Ensure all work is completed in accordance with workplace health and safety standards
• Communicate with supervisors and clients regarding vehicle conditions, repair requirements, and maintenance recommendations

Qualification & experience

• AQF Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent qualification
• At least 1+ years of relevant work experience as a Motor Mechanic (Heavy Vehicles) 
• Demonstrated experience in diagnosing and repairing heavy diesel vehicles and commercial fleets
• Strong knowledge of heavy vehicle mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
• Ability to use diagnostic tools and workshop equipment effectively
• Commitment to workplace health and safety procedures
• Valid driver’s licence preferred; Heavy Vehicle licence advantageous
