The Trustee for SJD Trust trading as SJD Automotive is seeking a qualified and motivated Motor Mechanic (General) to join our professional automotive workshop team in North Geelong. This is a full-time position offering the opportunity to work with a wide range of vehicles while contributing to the delivery of high-quality repair, maintenance, and diagnostic services.

The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing mechanical faults, carrying out repairs and servicing, and ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with industry standards. This role is ideally suited to an experienced mechanic who takes pride in delivering excellent workmanship and customer service.

Task & responsibilities

  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in motor vehicles using specialised diagnostic equipment and testing procedures 
  • Repair, service, and replace defective components including engines, transmissions, suspension systems, steering systems, and braking systems 
  • Carry out routine vehicle servicing including oil and filter changes, lubrication, fluid replacement, and preventative maintenance 
  • Inspect vehicles and perform testing procedures to identify faults and determine repair requirements 
  • Dismantle, repair, rebuild, and reassemble vehicle engines, gearboxes, differentials, and other mechanical components 
  • Perform repairs and maintenance on fuel injection systems, ignition systems, cooling systems, exhaust systems, and electrical components 
  • Conduct wheel alignments, suspension repairs, tyre inspections, and related mechanical adjustments 
  • Utilise workshop tools, diagnostic equipment, and technical manuals to accurately identify and rectify vehicle faults 
  • Test drive vehicles following repairs to ensure performance, safety, and quality standards are achieved 
  • Maintain accurate service records, repair reports, and documentation relating to work completed 
  • Ensure all repairs and servicing are performed in accordance with manufacturer specifications and workplace procedures 
  • Adhere to workplace health and safety requirements and maintain a clean, organised, and safe workshop environment 
  • Assist with ordering, checking, and managing spare parts and workshop inventory as required 
  • Collaborate effectively with other workshop staff to ensure efficient workflow and customer satisfaction 
  • Provide professional and courteous service to customers when required 

Qualification & experience

  • At least one year of relevant full-time work experience as a Motor Mechanic (General), or equivalent part-time experience 
  • Relevant qualification equivalent to an Australian Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology or higher is preferred 
  • Demonstrated experience diagnosing and repairing a broad range of vehicle mechanical and electrical systems 
  • Experience using automotive diagnostic equipment and workshop tools 
  • Sound understanding of modern vehicle maintenance and repair procedures 
  • Strong knowledge of workplace health and safety practices 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced workshop environment 
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and organisational skills 
  • Reliable, punctual, and committed to delivering high-quality workmanship
