CANBERRA TYRE AND WHEELS PTY LTD, trading as Canberra Tyre & Service Centre, is seeking a qualified and experienced Motor Mechanic to join our team in Fyshwick, ACT. This is a permanent full-time (38 hours per week) position offering a salary of AUD $76,600 to AUD $81,600 per annum, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will diagnose, repair, and maintain passenger vehicles, 4WDs, and commercial vehicles across all makes and models. You will work in a well-equipped workshop servicing the Canberra region, supported by an experienced team and modern diagnostic technology.

Task & responsibilities

• Detect and diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in engines, drivetrains, and vehicle systems 
• Perform routine and scheduled maintenance including oil changes, lubrication, brake servicing, and engine tune-ups 
• Dismantle and remove engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms, and related components for inspection and repair 
• Repair or replace worn and defective parts in accordance with manufacturer specifications and service manuals 
• Test and adjust mechanical components to confirm correct performance following repairs 
• Conduct pre- and post-repair road testing of vehicles 
• Utilise computerised diagnostic systems to assess and test vehicle components effectively 
• Inspect vehicles and issue roadworthiness certificates where applicable 
• Ensure all work meets applicable Australian safety standards and regulatory requirements 
• Maintain accurate records of work completed, parts used, and time taken 
• Communicate repair findings and service recommendations clearly to customers and team members 
• Maintain a clean, organised, and safe workshop environment 
• Adhere to all workplace health and safety protocols and procedures 
• Assist with the training and mentoring of junior staff members as required

Qualification & experience

• Certificate III in Automotive Mechanical Technology, or an equivalent recognised qualification 
• Minimum 1 year of demonstrated experience as a qualified Motor Mechanic 
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding ability across both mechanical and electronic vehicle systems
• Proficiency with computerised vehicle diagnostic tools and equipment 
• Valid Australian driver's licence 
• High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship 
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team 
• Strong communication and customer service skills 
• Commitment to workplace health and safety standards
