We are seeking a skilled and experienced Motor Mechanic (General) to join our workshop team on a full-time basis. The successful applicant will be responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, servicing and repairing light motor vehicles to ensure safe, reliable and efficient vehicle performance.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The successful Motor Mechanic will be responsible for:

• Inspecting vehicles and diagnosing mechanical and, where relevant, associated electrical faults in engines and vehicle components.
• Using computerised diagnostic equipment and testing procedures to identify faults and determine appropriate repairs.
• Inspecting, maintaining, testing and repairing petrol engines and associated mechanical components.
• Dismantling and removing engine components, transmissions, steering mechanisms, suspension components and other mechanical parts where required.
• Examining dismantled components to identify wear, damage, defects or other mechanical issues.
• Repairing or replacing worn, damaged and defective parts and components in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
• Reassembling mechanical components following repairs and referring to service manuals and technical specifications where required.
• Performing scheduled and preventative maintenance services, including oil and filter changes, lubrication, fluid checks and engine tune-ups.
• Inspecting, servicing and repairing braking systems, including brake pads, discs and related components.
• Inspecting, maintaining and repairing steering and suspension systems to ensure correct and safe vehicle operation.
• Inspecting and carrying out repairs to transmissions and related mechanical components where required.
• Testing and adjusting repaired mechanical components to ensure correct operation and performance.
• Conducting road tests and post-repair inspections to verify that faults have been rectified and vehicles are operating safely.
• Inspecting vehicles for roadworthiness and identifying any additional mechanical work required to meet safety and operating standards.
• Performing general mechanical repairs and servicing in accordance with workshop procedures and manufacturer specifications.
• Maintaining accurate service and repair records and documenting work performed on customer vehicles.
• Using workshop tools, diagnostic equipment and machinery safely and correctly.
• Maintaining a clean, organised and safe workshop and complying with applicable workplace health and safety requirements.

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, applicants should possess:

• A relevant automotive trade qualification, preferably Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology or an equivalent qualification.
• Relevant practical experience working as a Motor Mechanic, Automotive Light Mechanic or in a comparable light vehicle mechanical role.
• Strong knowledge of petrol engines and light motor vehicle mechanical systems.
• Demonstrated ability to diagnose mechanical faults accurately and carry out appropriate repairs.
• Experience servicing and repairing brakes, suspension, steering, engines, transmissions and other light vehicle mechanical components.
• Competence in using computerised diagnostic equipment and workshop testing tools.
• Sound knowledge of scheduled servicing, preventative maintenance and general vehicle repair procedures.
• Ability to read and interpret manufacturer specifications, service manuals and technical information.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as effectively within a workshop team.
• Good attention to detail and a commitment to completing repairs to a high standard.
• Sound understanding of workplace health and safety requirements within an automotive workshop.
• Good communication skills and a professional approach when dealing with colleagues and customers.
• A valid Australian driver's licence and the ability to safely road-test vehicles.
• Ability to drive both manual and automatic vehicles.
• Full working rights in Australia.
