About the role

Atherton Bakehouse is seeking an experienced Pastry Chef/Baker to join our talented team in Atherton, QLD. This is a full-time position, Monday to Friday based at our bakery located in Atherton QLD 4883. In this role, you will be responsible for creating high-quality baked goods and pastries that delight our customers and uphold the reputation of our bakehouse. You will work in a fast-paced bakery environment, managing production schedules, maintaining quality standards, and contributing to the creative development of our product range.

What you'll be doing

• Preparing and baking a variety of breads, pastries, cakes and other baked goods.

• Developing and executing recipes with precision, ensuring consistent quality and taste across all products

• Managing ingredient inventory and placing orders to maintain adequate stock levels for daily production

• Operating and maintaining bakery equipment, including ovens, mixers, and other specialised machinery

• Adhering to food safety and hygiene standards, maintaining a clean and organised work environment

• Monitoring baking times and temperatures to ensure products meet quality specifications

• Creating visually appealing presentations and finishes for pastries and decorative items

• Collaborating with team members to meet daily production targets and delivery schedules

• Assisting with training and mentoring junior bakers or kitchen staff as required

• Contributing ideas for new products and seasonal specials to enhance our bakery offerings

What we're looking for

• A recognised qualification in baking, pastry work or a related culinary discipline

• Proven experience of at least 2-3 years working as a baker or pastry chef in a professional bakery setting

• Strong technical knowledge of baking processes, including dough fermentation, lamination, tempering and decorative techniques

• Proficiency with bakery equipment and machinery, with the ability to operate safely and efficiently

• Excellent understanding of food safety, hygiene standards and best practices in a commercial kitchen

• Strong time management and organisational skills, with the ability to work under pressure and meet production deadlines

• Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality, consistent products

• Physical stamina and the ability to work standing for extended periods, lifting and carrying materials regularly

• Creativity and a willingness to innovate within traditional baking practices

• Effective communication and teamwork skills in a collaborative kitchen environment
