OUR TEAM

Our Above Water Systems team provides engineering & maintenance services to Royal Australian Navy vessels and commercial ships. We’re proud to bolster Australia’s sovereign capability through operational support to our defence partners. With ongoing training programs and a team of over 500, our people have room to grow and develop an impactful career with us.

YOUR ROLE

Located in Sydney at Woolloomooloo's Garden Island, on Gadigal land your role purpose will be, your role purpose is to commence and complete a registered apprenticeship in Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade (Heavy Fabrication) which is typically a 4-year apprenticeship. You will perform a range of mechanical work including:

• Examine drawings or specifications to determine material and equipment requirements

• Heat treat metal parts and components

• Set up and operate hand and machine tools, and equipment

• Assemble parts and structures by lining up and joining them by bolting or riveting

YOUR EXPERIENCE

As a first-year apprentice, we'll expect you to bring the following skills and behaviours:

• Sound literacy, numeracy and basic computer skills

• Strong communication skills and ability to work within a team environment

• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, at Heights and in Confined Spaces

• Hold a General Construction Induction card (White Card)

AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE ROLES & SECURITY

A Defence security clearance NV1 is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain an appropriate clearance.

Additional information with regards to clearances is available from the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency website http://www.defence.gov.au/AGSVA/. In some cases, individuals who hold a current clearance from a foreign government may be eligible to have this clearance recognised by the Australian Government and be eligible for this role. The Australian Defence Trade Controls Act (DTCA) is applicable and as such, your nationality may be a factor in determining your suitability for this role.
