The Motor Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, servicing, maintaining, and repairing a wide range of petrol and diesel vehicles to ensure they operate safely and efficiently. Duties include identifying mechanical and electrical faults using diagnostic equipment, conducting routine servicing and preventative maintenance, repairing and replacing defective components, performing engine, transmission, brake, steering, suspension, and electrical system repairs, and carrying out road tests to verify vehicle performance. The role also involves wheel alignments, tyre fitting, wheel balancing, maintaining accurate service records, and ensuring all work is completed in accordance with manufacturer specifications, workplace health and safety requirements, and industry standards.

Task & responsibilities
- Detect, diagnose, and repair mechanical and electrical faults in petrol and diesel vehicles.
- Conduct scheduled servicing, maintenance, and safety inspections in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
- Dismantle, repair, and reassemble engines, transmissions, steering systems, suspension systems, braking systems, and other vehicle components.
- Test, repair, and maintain vehicle electrical and electronic systems.
- Remove and replace worn, damaged, or defective vehicle parts and components.
- Perform engine tuning and adjustments to improve vehicle performance and efficiency.
- Use diagnostic scanners and specialised workshop equipment to identify faults.
- Conduct road tests and quality checks to ensure repairs have been completed successfully.
- Perform wheel alignments, wheel balancing, tyre fitting, tyre repairs, and tyre replacements where required.
- Inspect tyres, wheels, suspension, and steering components to identify wear, damage, or safety concerns.
- Maintain accurate service records, repair reports, and workshop documentation.
- Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety requirements and workshop procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe workshop environment.
Qualification & experience
To be considered for this position, applicants must possess:
- Certificate IV in Automotive Technology, or a higher relevant automotive qualification.
- Minimum 2–3 years of full-time local Australian experience** as a Motor Mechanic.
- Strong diagnostic and fault-finding abilities.
- Experience servicing and repairing a broad range of petrol and diesel vehicles.
- Sound knowledge of modern vehicle systems, servicing procedures, and repair techniques.
- Ability to use diagnostic scanners, testing equipment, and workshop tools effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and time-management skills.
Desirable Skills
The following skills will be highly regarded:
* Experience in wheel alignment, wheel balancing, and tyre fitting.
* Knowledge of tyre inspection, repair, rotation, and replacement procedures.
* Experience using wheel alignment and balancing equipment.
* Experience working within tyre and automotive service centres.
* Current Australian Driver Licence.
