The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults, carrying out servicing and repairs, replacing defective components, reassembling and testing vehicle systems, and ensuring work is completed safely and to a high professional standard. This role suits a hands-on mechanic who can work accurately across a broad range of vehicles and contribute positively to a customer-focused workshop.

Task & responsibilities

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Detect and diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in engines, vehicle systems and components.
  • Dismantle and remove engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms and other components, and inspect parts for wear or damage.
  • Repair or replace worn, damaged or defective parts and reassemble mechanical components in accordance with manufacturer specifications and workshop procedures.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance services, including oil and filter changes, lubrication, tune-ups and other preventative maintenance to support safe and efficient vehicle operation.
  • Reassemble engines, assemblies and related components after repairs have been completed.
  • Test, inspect and adjust repaired mechanical parts and vehicle systems to confirm proper performance and reliability.
  • Diagnose, test and adjust vehicle components using computer-based diagnostic equipment and other workshop tools.
  • Carry out general vehicle repairs and maintenance involving brakes, suspension, steering, cooling systems, transmissions, batteries, tyres and related components as required.
  • Assist with vehicle inspections and roadworthiness-related work, including identifying repairs required for vehicles to meet applicable roadworthiness standards.
  • Respond to vehicle breakdown or urgent repair requirements when required by the business.
  • Maintain accurate job records and communicate clearly with the workshop team regarding identified faults, repairs completed and any additional work required.
  • Follow workplace health and safety requirements and maintain a clean, organised and safe workshop environment.

Qualification & experience

Qualifications Required

  • Relevant automotive trade qualification, such as Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis and Diploma of Automotive Technology or an equivalent qualification.

Work Experience Required

  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant hands-on experience working as a Motor Mechanic or in a similar automotive repair and servicing role.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose faults, complete mechanical repairs and undertake scheduled vehicle servicing independently and accurately.
  • Experience working across different vehicle makes and models is highly regarded.
