Join UGL – Australia’s Lead in Defence Services

As the major Defence Fuel Network Managing Contractor, UGL has firmly established itself as Australia’s leading Defence services provider. With extensive expertise in reviewing, maintaining, and remediating critical assets and infrastructure, we deliver on our nation’s sovereign capability through world-class, integrated asset management, operations and maintenance—supporting and strengthening the Australian Defence Force’s (ADF) national security across the country.

As this significant long-term operations and maintenance contract continues to grow, we are seeking several talented Defence Fuel Operators to join our team in RAAF Edinburgh, SA

In this pivotal role, you will:

  • Support the Defence Fuel Network across Australia, ensuring operational excellence and reliability.
  • Contribute directly to the success of a program essential to national defence capability.
  • Work alongside industry experts, Defence partners, and UGL’s outstanding teams.

This is an exclusive opportunity to develop your career within a Tier 1 service provider, delivering meaningful work that safeguards Australia’s security while being part of a team renowned for excellence and collaboration.

The Role - Defence Fuel Installations Operator (DFI Operator)

Whilst this position supports multiple fuel installation sites around SA, you will be primarily established at Edinburgh RAAF base.

As a DFI Operator, you will:

  • Report to the Operations Advisor (OA) and perform a range of operational and functional tasks across the installation.
  • Ensure the safe, compliant operation and management of aviation and/or ground fuel installations.
  • Oversee fuel quality, compliance, quantity, and availability, including related systems and processes.
  • Maintain technical integrity of fuel through quality control sampling and testing.
  • Bring experience from similar environments—fuel or other high-risk/hazardous processing industries—highly regarded.

No prior Defence or Fuel Industry experience? No problem!
While Defence or fuel industry experience is advantageous, UGL’s comprehensive training and development programs provide a pathway into the industry. You’ll receive the skills and knowledge needed to perform your role safely, including access to specialised interstate facilities and a mix of onsite and offsite training throughout your career.

What You Will Need

  • A strong commitment to safety—it’s at the core of everything we do at UGL.
  • Attributes such as initiative, teamwork, and dedication to the critical role we play in supporting Australia’s Defence Force.
  • A valid driver’s licence (HR or HC desirable but not essential at entry).
  • Ability to obtain appropriate Defence Security Clearance.
  • Residency in Adelaide or willingness to relocate (close proximity to Edinburgh RAAF Base).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • IT efficiency highly desirable

What We Offer

  • A long-term opportunity within the Defence sector, contributing to Australia’s national security.
  • All required industry and Defence-specific training to perform your role safely and effectively.

As a diversified services organisation, UGL appreciates the diversity and richness of its people, and seeks to create inclusive environments that promote your talent and skills.

To express your interest in this position, please submit your application by applying to the advert and answer screening questions as prompted.
